What Is Bopp in Packaging Bags?

2026-05-29

BOPP in packaging bags means biaxially oriented polypropylene film. It is a polypropylene film stretched in both machine and transverse directions to improve clarity, stiffness, tensile strength, printability, and moisture resistance. In flexible packaging, BOPP is widely used for snack bags, bakery bags, candy bags, dry food packaging, label film, laminated pouches, and retail packaging structures.

BOPP is valued because it gives packaging bags a bright surface, good transparency, and stable printing performance. Industry material data commonly lists polypropylene density at about 0.90 g/cm³, making BOPP lighter than many other plastic films. ASTM D882 is often used to evaluate tensile properties of thin plastic films, while ASTM F1249 and ASTM D3985 are commonly used to test water vapor and oxygen transmission for packaging films.

Material Feature        Why It Matters For Packaging Bags

High clarity        Improves product visibility and shelf appearance

Good stiffness        Helps bags keep a cleaner shape

Moisture resistance        Protects dry food and powder products

Printability        Supports attractive retail packaging design

Low density        Helps reduce packaging weight

Lamination compatibility        Works with PE, CPP, PET, or barrier films

BOPP is often used as the outer layer of laminated packaging bags. The outer BOPP layer supports printing and surface appearance, while inner PE or CPP layers provide heat sealing. When higher barrier performance is needed, BOPP can be combined with metallized film, aluminum foil, or other barrier materials. This structure is common in food packaging bags where appearance, sealing strength, and shelf-life protection all matter.

For project procurement, BOPP should be selected according to product type, filling weight, sealing method, storage humidity, printing design, and carton packaging plan. BOPP works well for dry snacks, biscuits, noodles, candy, tea, and light retail goods. For liquid, oily, sharp, or high-barrier products, the full laminated structure needs to be checked before mass production.

JINGOU focuses on corrugated carton machinery for flexible packaging production and secondary packaging needs. After BOPP packaging bags are filled and sealed, accurate cartons are still needed for storage, stacking, warehouse handling, and export shipping. Our carton forming machines, cardboard box forming machines, auto thin blade slitter scorers, and rotary slotter machines help factories produce cartons that match different pouch sizes and shipment requirements.

Professional advice is to evaluate the bag and carton together. A well-printed BOPP bag can still be damaged if the outer carton is too loose, too tight, or weak in stacking. JINGOU can help customers review bag size, carton type, board thickness, slotting structure, small quantity order needs, and packaging workflow before equipment selection.

Share your packaging bag size, product weight, carton specification, board type, and order plan with JINGOU. Our team can recommend a practical carton machinery solution for stable BOPP packaging bag production and safer delivery.
